Xmas Ideas

December 12, 2011 4 Comments

Hello   Xmas is coming in a hurry this year, I think I said that last year as well. When my children were young I was always so organized and had the xmas shopping well done by October most years, now I am the queen of the last minute. How did that happen ? Haha. I have been out shopping with my sons lovely girlfriend Chantel, with two sons, what a blessing it is to have another woman around to share these pleasures. With her help I have managed to complete all of my xmas shopping, she really helped with ideas of what to buy everyone. Now I am ready 'almost' and can't wait for everyone to open their presents. I have also been making xmas presents for friends and have a few ideas to share with you all. You can never have too many pin cushions. I also love thread catchers and have made this one with a pin cushion to match for a friend. [caption id="attachment_696" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Pin Cushion and Thread Catcher[/caption]   [caption id="attachment_697" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Pin Cushion with fabric flower[/caption]   [caption id="attachment_698" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Thread Catcher with Pinwheel Base[/caption]   [caption id="attachment_699" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Thread Catcher and Pincushion[/caption]   I think this container could have many uses and I have made it so that it will hang onto the tray of my sew easy table. I thought our sew in day ladies might enjoy making these in Janurary. Happy Stitching Sharon

This morning I am sewing the border fabrics together for the top and bottom borders of the Roses quilt. I have selected and range of tone on tone prints some light and some with a little bit of colour to give a bit of interest. I love to mix up the fabrics, using a large selection. Something I find helpful when piecing the strips is to pin at least the end of the seam so the fabrics don't shift while you are sewing and end up with one end longer than the other.

I am not in a hurry to get to the finish line with this quilt, I love the whole process, every step and stitch. This week has had me finding the perfect fabric for the birds, I have used a window to get the perfect area of the fabric to make the birds look their best. Trying many different fabrics, I now have more birds than I need and some to set aside for another quilt. This is usually the case in many of my applique quilts, so I have a little pile of orphan pieces waiting for the perfect quilt to be stitched into.
