Flying Geese Blocks on the quilt I am making are only 2 inches wide x 1 inch in height. The cutest flying geese I have ever made. I am using a great technique, they are such a doddle to make even at this size.

This is not a new technique for making flying geese blocks, but it is the first time I have used it. Here's the technique:

For (2) Flying Geese blocks finished size 1 x 2 inches cut as follows:

1 large square 3 1/4 inches 3 small squares 1 7/8 inches ( I used different fabrics for each small square for a scrappy look )

Draw a line from corner to corner on all (3) small squares. And place (2) small squares onto large 3 1/4 inch square as in diagram below.

Stitch with a 1/4 inch seam each side of the drawn line.

Cut apart on drawn line. Press towards the flying geese triangles.

Place third small square as in diagram above, and stitch a 1/4 inch seam on each side of drawn line.

Press towards the triangles to get two Flying Geese Units.

There is a little bit of wiggle room with this technique allowing you to trim up your blocks to the correct size if needed. ( Remember scant 1/4 inch seam ) Although there are many ways to make flying geese blocks I am enjoying this technique for accuracy and speed.

Chain Stitching the blocks gets them done in no time.
