My Home Town Quilt PDF Pattern Giveaway!
It's time for another giveaway, and this time I have am pleased to share the 'My Home Town Quilt Pattern'.
Leave a comment to win with your answers to the questions below......
Lately, I have been busy finishing my Friendship Stars Quilt which was a block swap quilt. I thought it would be interesting to know if you have ever participated in block swaps?
What do you make with the blocks? Is there a pattern supplied.
Have you joined a block swap with your quilting group or via an internet group?
If you have not joined a block swap is this something you would like to do?
How fun to read all your comments, looking forward to reading about your block swap quilts.
Happy Stitching
Sharon

I have done many swaps, in many different ways. My favorite is a centralized swap where all blocks go to one person and you get back as many as you sent in. I haven’t had as much luck with the kind where each person sends blocks out to other people. If you’re going to do that, you really have to know your group.
I usually make a sampler quilt with them, either with alternate setting blocks or strips and cornerstones. It depends on how large I want the quilt to be. Sometimes we have given a theme, such as patriotic or stars or angels, but I’ve not done any where a pattern was supplied. Some of my friends do that, but I haven’t.
All of my block swaps have been via the internet groups to which I belong. Way, way, back, maybe 20 or more years ago, I did one in a class I attended, and it was fun. The things I found out are: 1. Don’t have high proficiency expectations. Some groups will meet them, but most won’t. If you want perfect blocks, make them yourself. A swap is for friendship. 2. Unless I really liked the theme or the people involved, I’d have been better off spending the time making my own blocks. I have a patriotic quilt of swap blocks and alternating blocks I made that I wouldn’t trade for anything, and I have blocks which have never been made into anything. 3. No Whining Allowed! LOL
I really enjoy your page and love the new pattern and the colours. I have not entered a block swap as I prefer to choose my own colours and fabrics. Thank you for the inspiration. Shirley

I have never participated in a block swap. I am just starting to make I Spy Quilts and have been thinking about how I would collect the many different blocks. The comment earlier to partiicipate in a block swap for I Spy quilts is a great idea!!!
Occasionally my guild or off shoot groups will have a block swap, they are fun and it’s a wonderful way to get blocks of a variety of colors that you don’t have in your stash.
I love swaps and shar-a-blocks. Have participated in both. I may not put the blocks to finish immediately but do get them together. These mean a lot and you get to make a lot of new friends.
I’ve taken part in many block swaps (and still have a stack of blocks from them waiting for my attention) but not so much in recent years. The rising cost of fabric and postage really slowed me down. Now I take part in some of the online quiltalongs and enjoy those. My focus now is to use my stash and clear out fabric that I’ve been hanging on to for years.
Years ago when I first started Quilting I joined a block swap on the net. It was an I spy swap and it was wonderful for me as I didn;t have a lot of fabric when I started out. I made a wonderful I Spy Quilt for my grandson and I would have never had so many different blocks if I had just done it by myself. Another sway I did was with a group in Germany and we swapped floral 10 inch squares and I made a Trellis Garden Quilt. Was a lot of fun and highly recommend it.
Cheers
Liz
I have not yet participated in a block swap. They sound like fun. Thanks so much for sharing. I love your pattern
I love the idea of a swap but I’ve never taken part in a block swap…. yet. I worry that I haven’t the time fulfil my commitment and I would hate to let anybody down.
The closest I’ve come is that myself and some quilty friends all made a few blocks to make a LINUS project quilt a couple of years ago. It was lovely to see my blocks together with others to make a beautiful quilt and it’s something I’d like to do again in the future… but probably when the kids are older and I have more sewing machine time.
We do block swaps with my guild, with a chosen pattern. I have made several quilts of various sizes with my blocks. I have also joined a mini quilt swap with an online group on Instagram. No pattern is supplied, you choose your own according to the theme of the swap. I really enjoy these! I enjoy the freedom of choosing your own pattern and fabrics. I look forward to doing more of these online swaps! Thanks for the chance to win!
I have only done one block swap and it was with some of my quilting buddies. We had to come up with our own pattern to complete it. I would try it again some time, but not right now. Love your quilt pattern.
As a New Zealander living in the States at present I love receiving your newsletter . It makes me yearn for my family and friends and real bread!!!!! The giveaway pattern reminds of my neighborhood with the cookie cutter houses. Too cute…..
I personally have not participated in a block swap but would give it a try. An international swap would be interesting with fabrics from different parts of the world. I am a definite scrap quilter with a reproduction flair and use quilt shop only fabrics. I would be a starter for something different.
Thank you for wonderful inspiration.

Do not like swaps. Blocks not the same size. Some badly put together. Do not think I will do again
Some not to my taste
It’s just spring here in Ontario, Canada. Dreading the hot, humid summer, and looking forward to my favourite season: fall.
Long time ago…when I belonged to a quilt guild, I participated in a block swap. If I remember correctly, the blocks were supposed to be “spring” themed.
The blocks I received are still hanging on the wall…one block doesn’t go with the others, though it is very nice. Wondering if I will ever put them together into a small wallhanging. LOL
Love your hometown pattern and would be thrilled to win it. Thanks for the opportunity.

I’ve not participated in a block swap but I have made a block that was donated to go into a quilt for a fellow quilter whom was injured. I love the pattern of the quilt you’ve posted.
My Quilt Guild sponsors a block exchange from time to time and I also have a group of friends who have done block exchanges. Usually there is no pattern supplied so you’re on your own with what you do with the blocks. Lots of fun to see what others do with the blocks. I would do a block swap again :)
For years I have seen different swaps going on, thinking how fun it would be to participate! However, they don’t do these swaps locally, and there is a limitation to participate internationally: mailing service is very expensive.
Lovely pattern!! Thank you!
I have not participated in a block swap but I think I would like to. What I have enjoyed doing via blogs is challenges like the 2017 Finish-a-long and the quilting challenges from Quilt Shop Gal. Those seem to motivate me to try new techniques and finish up projects I start.
Thanks for the pattern give away ~ I love that design:)
I am currently in a hexie flower swap with lots of ladies from the US, Denmark, Austria, Holland, New Zealand and Oz. I would love to do a block swap though. I am a lover of reproduction fabrics and really love traditional blocks snd applique.
Have never been involved in block swap, but am currently involved in fabric Swap. 5" blocks will eventually go into I Spy quilt.
I have always wanted to join a block swap, but my time is so limited that I am afraid that I wouldn’t get my block done in time. My quilt guild has had them from time to time and I have joined in. It is interesting to see someone else’s spin on the same block.
A wonderful quilt that would look lovely as a table centre/bed topper . Please put my name for give away. Happy Stitching.
How to press a Flying Geese Border ? This is the question I was asked so I have done my best to answer as it is not exactly what you might be expecting to see. Read more to see how I pressed the seams to get nice flat intersections.
Making four Flying Geese units at a time is a great time saver, and a wonderful method. I love to oversize the units and trim them down to the correct size for perfect blocks. Read how I go about making these versatile units that I use in almost every quilt I make.

I’ve done man block swaps – some successful, some not so much. The most recent is with a group I retreat with every year. We are swapping red/white/blue string blocks. I can’t wait for this one, this quilt is going to be great!!
