Birds in the Air / Basting Time

Basting time for my Birds in the Air Quilt. Normally this is a challenge, I'm afraid my bad back let's me know that getting down on the floor for hours is not easy these days. Finding the space to lay the quilt out on the floor is another challenge as I would have to move furniture around and then make sure there was no one home and no pets around. ( Oh the stress of it all ) I thought of basting it Sharon Schambers way with boards, but it is thread basted and I think I would have problems with machine quilting. I have found a solution, my cutting table is perfect. I recently moved it away from the wall so I could get all the way around it, which means it's is great for basting. It is also the right height which is also important when you have back problems and helps with not creating back problems in the future. Kitty Kat was not pleased about being asked to move off my cutting table! Rosie thought it was all a bit boring, but kept us company all the same. Finally basted and ready to start with the fun of quilting. I used a cotton batting for this quilt, my usual favorite is wool. I thought cotton batting would be good this time, this quilt would suit the antique look you get when washing the quilt with cotton batting as it has a wee shrinkage which gives the quilt a worn look. Outside the day was a glorious spring day, my yellow rose is just beginning to bloom. This Rose will be loaded with blooms throughout the summer, it is definitely a favorite with me. It will be wonderful quilt,I love the colours and it’s soft contrast.Basting is not my favorit part of making quilts because of my old back and my knees :-) .I am trying to bast my quilts on our dinning table but sometimes it is not big enough and has already some scratches of the safety pins :-( .

Really love your quilt. “The fun of quilting” is something I need to learn…..grin. Your kitty is so cute. About the colors of my Elly but with short hair. Cute pup as well. You look way to young for the back problems….take good care of yourself it will make old age easier….:)
