My Sewing Room

March 25, 2010 10 Comments

Hello I finally have my own space for my sewing room. I have made the ultimate sacrifice and come to terms with the fact that my baby boy ( now 22 yrs old ) will not be coming home to live with us again. This has allowed me to take over his room, I think my husband has had a harder time getting used to this idea than me. The only thing that could be a problem is visitors. When both the boys and their girlfriends come home and stay this could be a problem, but we will cross that bridge when we come to it as that only happens once or twice a year, and I sew every day. I have been organizing my space, and I have to confess I seem to have a lot of stuff. But I have managed to find a place for all of it so no need to worry about being a hoarder just yet. The only thing with this room is the lighting, my DH says it only takes 5 minutes to put in a new light as I already have the light in question ready to be installed. I mentioned the electrician and my DH says " I can do that for you it only takes 5 minutes " needless to say I am still waiting for it to be done. ( sigh ) Well I shouldn't complain I now have my own room after all. Here are some pictures of my set up. Fantastic Sharon…nothing like your own space.
I notice you have a new Pffaf…is it an expessions 4.0 ? I have been thinking of a new machine, and have tried one of those…Also looking at Bernina in the 8 series, but they are really expensive. Love to know your thoughts.
As far as visiotrs go – you can always use sleeping bags or mattresses on the floor…we do that at time…as you say , its only twice a year :)

Nice view Sharon! I totally get how you feel about having your own room, although mine is also the spare room. Hope you still have somewhere for me to sleep when I come to stay.

Hi Joan
I am loving my new Phaff quilt expression 4.0, although I must warn you I have had a few hiccups to sort out. I agree the Bernina is very expensive and the Phaff has alot of the same features for half the price. I also have a Bernina Aroura 4.0 which I have loved and will keep as a backup, they are quite differnet machines and it has taken me a while to get used to my Phaff, but the more I use it the more I love it.
I agree about the visitors.
Thanks for the comment and good luck with the new machine.

I also agree with Celine; you’re environment can have a surprisingly powerful effect on your well being and general state of mind. It’s great that you’ve managed to personalise your space so well and create something so individual. I love the view from your window- it looks like a great source of inspiration!

It is really important that you are comfortable with the atmosphere of the place where you are spending most of your time. Thank you for sharing some of your photos in this post.

I have been missing in action for a few days....... do you get withdrawal symptoms when you don't get to sew?... I do. Seriously I'm addicted!

Today is a good day, I am in my happy place at the sewing machine. My machine is cleaned and oiled, with a new needle and I am ready to go. I plan to get busy finishing the flying geese units for the final border on my Vintage Nine Patch Quilt.

This month (January) the Small Wonders Club quilt pattern is called 'Rose of Thorns'. I am in love with this little quilt it has all my favourite colours in it and of course a little applique too. I think I'm also addicted to Flying Geese blocks, they are so cute in the border. Rose Of Thorns measures 22 inches square.
